Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Large skillet or wok
  • Tongs
  • Cutting board and knife

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil or other high-smoke-point oil
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped scallions

Instructions

Marinate the Chicken

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Add the chicken pieces, ensuring they’re evenly coated. Cover the bowl and let the chicken marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare the Skillet

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil and heat until shimmering. Toss the marinated chicken with cornstarch to lightly coat, ensuring a crispy texture when cooked.

Cook the Chicken

  • Place the chicken pieces in the skillet in a single layer. Sear for 5–7 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside.

Prepare the Sauce

  • In the same skillet, pour the leftover marinade and bring it to a simmer. Cook for 3–4 minutes until it thickens slightly. Return the chicken to the skillet and toss it in the sauce to coat evenly.

Serve and Garnish

  • Plate the Osaka Chicken and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions. Serve hot over steamed rice, alongside sautéed vegetables, or in lettuce wraps for a lighter option.

Notes

1. For an added twist, you can include vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas during the cooking process.
2. This recipe can be prepared in advance by marinating the chicken overnight, making it a great option for meal prep.
3. Adjust the sweetness and saltiness of the marinade to your preference by experimenting with honey and soy sauce ratios.
