  • Tongs or slotted spoon
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Spoon or whisk for mixing
  • Measuring spoons and cups

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds 1 kg chicken breast or thigh, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon accent seasoning optional for added flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes adjust to taste for spice
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil canola or any mild oil
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup garlic finely crushed or chopped
  • 2 stalks green onions chopped
  • 3/4 cup soy sauce

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken:

  • Cut the chicken breast or thighs into bite-sized cubes.

Season the Chicken:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the chicken cubes with the 1/4 cup of flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon white pepper, 1 teaspoon red chili flakes, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch. Mix well so the chicken is coated evenly.

Prepare the Coating:

  • In a separate shallow dish, whisk together the 2 eggs and 3 tablespoons of sugar. In another plate or shallow bowl, place the remaining 1/4 cup cornstarch.

Coat the Chicken:

  • Dip each seasoned chicken cube into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, then roll the chicken in the cornstarch to coat it completely. Set aside for frying.

Heat the Oil:

  • In a large frying pan or skillet, heat the 1 tablespoon vegetable oil over medium heat.

Fry the Chicken:

  • Once the oil is hot, carefully add the chicken cubes to the pan, making sure they’re not overcrowded. Fry the chicken in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Prepare the Sauce:

  • In a separate small pan, combine the soy sauce, crushed garlic, green onions, sesame seeds, and Accent seasoning (optional). Bring to a simmer over low heat, stirring frequently until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3-4 minutes.

Combine Chicken and Sauce:

  • Once the chicken is fried and crispy, add it back into the pan and pour the soy sauce mixture over it. Toss the chicken in the sauce to coat evenly.

Serve:

  • Serve the Hawaiian fried chicken hot, garnished with extra sesame seeds or green onions if desired.
