Equipment

  • A large skillet or frying pan
  • A cutting board and knife
  • A measuring spoon set
  • A spoon or spatula for stirring
  • A large bowl for mixing the chicken and marinade

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro chopped (optional)
  • 1 lime cut into wedges
  • 1/2 cup sour cream optional for serving

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

  • First, take the chicken breasts and place them on a cutting board. If the chicken is particularly thick, you might want to butterfly them to ensure even cooking. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.

Step 2: Make the Marinade

  • In a large bowl, combine olive oil, soy sauce, honey, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powder. Stir well until the marinade is evenly mixed.

Step 3: Marinate the Chicken

  • Place the chicken breasts into the bowl with the marinade. Toss to coat each piece thoroughly, ensuring the marinade covers the chicken on all sides.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the chicken marinate for at least 20 minutes. If you have extra time, marinate it for up to 2 hours in the fridge to enhance the flavors.

Step 4: Cook the Chicken

  • Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Once the pan is hot, add a bit of olive oil to coat the bottom. Carefully place the marinated chicken breasts into the pan.
  • Let them cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. You can check for doneness by cutting into the thickest part of the chicken and ensuring the juices run clear.

Step 5: Serve and Garnish

  • Once the chicken is cooked, transfer it to a plate. Sprinkle fresh cilantro on top for a burst of color and freshness. Serve with lime wedges on the side, and if you prefer, add a dollop of sour cream for a creamy touch.

Notes

  • Leftovers: If you have leftovers, store the chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet or microwave until heated through.
  • Customizations: Don’t be afraid to tweak the recipe based on your dietary preferences. You can easily make this dish gluten-free by ensuring your soy sauce is gluten-free or experimenting with different spices.
