Toaster (optional)
- 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 2 hamburger buns your favorite kind!
- 1 tomato sliced (optional)
- 1 red onion thinly sliced (optional)
- Lettuce leaves optional
- Mayonnaise or pesto optional
Prep the Chicken
Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. Season them generously with salt and pepper. This is where you can get creative!
If you’re feeling adventurous, try adding a sprinkle of Italian seasoning, paprika, or cayenne pepper for a little kick.
Cook the Chicken
Heat the olive oil in a frying pan or on your grill over medium heat. Once hot, add the chicken breasts and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until cooked through. The internal temperature of the chicken should reach 165°F.
Tip: If your chicken breasts are thick, you can pound them out slightly between two pieces of parchment paper to ensure even cooking.
Assemble the Sandwich
While the chicken cooks, toast your hamburger buns if desired. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise or pesto on the bottom bun (or both, if you’re feeling saucy!).
Place the cooked chicken breast on the bottom bun, followed by a slice (or two!) of provolone cheese.
Now comes the fun part: toppings! Add your sliced tomato, red onion, and lettuce if using. You can also get creative here.
Some other topping ideas include roasted peppers, avocado slices, or a drizzle of your favorite hot sauce.
Top it all off with the other half of the bun, and devour!
